PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for processing document capable of improving an operability for a user by easing the limitation of document insertion. SOLUTION: A plurality of individually drivable carrying roller pairs PM01-PM08 are arranged on a carrying path 2 right behind an inserting port. These carrying roller pairs PM01-PM08 are contactingly and separably constituted individually. When two sheets of documents (paying document and passbook) are inserted in overlapped state, on the one hand, movement is restricted by holding one document with not less than one carrying roller pair interfering with only one document, on the other hand, to carry holding the other documents with not less than other carrying rollers interfering with only other documents toward downstream or upstream, the driving of the plurality of carrying roller pairs PM01-PM08 is individually controlled, and each document is separated by individually controlling the contacting/separating state between the carrying rollers every individual carrying rollers pairs.
