PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a time required for friction agitation welding. SOLUTION: A rotor 21 is rotated by a rotating driving means 27 to advance straight to a material to be welded by a rectilinear driving means 29. The rotor 21 is advanced straight at a high speed while being rotated at a high speed. When a pin 36 intrudes into materials 22, 23 to be welded and touches them with its shoulder 38, a load current of a motor 31 for rotation driving to be detected by a detecting means 34 increases. On and after the time t3, the rotational speed of the rotor 21 is changed to a lower rotational speed V2 suitable for the friction agitation welding of softened parts of the materials 22, 23 to be welded, and the lowering straight advancing speed is reduced down to zero to lower a pressing force P2.
