PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method which enables the highly precise rolling of a grooved flat bar extending longitudinally at a designated distance apart from one of edge faces to serve as an reference face. SOLUTION: A universal rolling mill that is comprised of a pair of horizontal rolls 31, 32 in a vertical manner, and a pair of vertical rolls 33, 34 in a horizontal manner is used as a finish rolling mill. A ring-shaped projection 31a is formed circumferentially on the peripheral surface of the top horizontal roll 31, and the left and the right vertical rolls 33, 34 are pressed against the edge faces of the top and bottom horizontal rolls during a non-rolling state. During finish rolling, a groove 55 of the flat bar 50 is formed by the projection 31a around the top horizontal roll 31, which the reference face 53 of the flat bar 55 is formed by one of the vertical rolls 33.
