PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove the cause of stopping of a carriage moving toward a target position easily and surely as compared with prior art. SOLUTION: Upon detection of such an error as a carriage moving toward a target position (e.g. a home position) is disabled to move to the target position due to some cause (Yes at step S5), a CPU moves the carriage 1 automatically to a position where the error can be eliminated (S2). In this regard, current information of internal conditions is altered to the information of internal conditions immediately before starting movement of the carriage 1 to the home position 400 (e.g. during replacement of ink).
