PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out capping in a state that good appearance of a bottle or commodity value thereof is not damaged. SOLUTION: A capping apparatus is provided with a plurality of support claws 9 which receive and support the part 3d of the bottle 3 from below, a pressing mechanism which downwardly presses a cap 4 to the opening 3a of the bottle 3 having the part 3d to be supported on the support claws 9, and a rotational drive mechanism which rotates and screws the cap 4. A mechanism X for generating rotational drive force sets the timing of starting transmitting the rotational drive force for screwing the cap 4 from the rotational drive mechanism to the cap 4 after the pressing mechanism starts transmitting pressing force to the cap 4.
