GROWTH HORMONE SECRETAGOGUE AND FUNCTIONAL FOOD CONTAINING SPICATOSIDE A OR LIRIOPE PLATYPHYLLA EXTRACT CONTAINING THE SAME

PURPOSE: Spicatoside A, a derivative thereof, a methanol extract of Liriope platyphylla and a butanol fraction thereof which stimulate secretion of growth hormone by acting on the pituitary gland are provided. They are low in toxicity and thus can be used as a therapeutic agent caused by deficiency in growth hormone secretion and a food for stimulating secretion of growth hormone. CONSTITUTION: The therapeutic agent for treatment of diseases caused by deficiency in growth hormone secretion contains spicatoside A of the formula 1 and derivatives thereof as an effective ingredient. The methanol extract of Liriope platyphylla and a butanol fraction thereof contain the spicatoside A and derivatives thereof and is obtained by extracting Liriope platyphylla Wang et Tang powder in methanol or a mixed solvent of methanol and water, filtering and then concentrating under reduced pressure. LD50 of Liriope platyphylla extract and spicatoside A is 134.34±12.50g/kg and above 100mg/kg respectively.
