A braided conductive wire, used in the manufacture of an overhead electricity conductor by assembling and twisting several of the conductive wires, comprises a reinforcing core of organic or inorganic material, coated with one or more layers of braided wire. At least one of the wire layers is made of aluminum. The wire is coated with a layer of molten aluminum before being passed through a die for shaping. Preferred Features: The reinforcing core comprises organic or inorganic fibers whose tensile strength is greater than 2.5 GPa, and preferably comprises carbon fibers. The core comprises one or more rovings, each of which consists of a number of continuous filaments. The percentage volume of the organic or inorganic fibers comprises 10-70 % of the volume of the total volume of the wire. The braided layers preferably consist of reinforcing fibers and aluminum wires (2). The reinforcing fibers can be made of a material identical to or different from that of the reinforcing core. The diameter of the braided aluminum-braided wire is 100 microns - 1 mm, preferably 200-500 microns. The aluminum grade is 1xxx to 7xxx, and is preferably of the type 1350 or equivalent. The layer of molten aluminum is at least 99% pure. The final diameter of the composite wire is 1 mm - 6 mm, and its final form is preferably round. |
