PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus suitable for obtaining an image of an object such as a fingertip touching the imaging surface. SOLUTION: A fingerprint reader 3 includes an image pickup element 8 for converting the shading due to projecting and recessed parts of the fingertip 100 to obtain a fingerprint image of the fingertip 100. A photocatalyst film 33 having transparency and a photocatalyst function is formed on the surface of the image pickup element 8. The photocatalyst 33 mainly contains titanium oxide. By the photocatalyst function of the photocatalyst film 33, sebum of the fingertip adhering to the surface of the surface is decomposed so that the fingerprint will not remain on the surface of the image pickup element 8.
