PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic map automatic input and inspection method and device by which a work for inputting an elevation value to a level curve, and a work for inspecting the inputted elevation value are automatized, the burden of an operator is relieved in the work, and map picture data is created with high precision. SOLUTION: The device includes: a river end-point and branch extracting means 5; an intersection level curve extracting means 6; an elevation value imparting means 7; and an elevation value inspecting means 8. Concerning a river having a border with a shoreline, a river vector is followed with a reference elevation value as 0m. Then the elevation values by prescribed difference corresponding to the reduction scale of a map are automatically inputted to the level curves crossing with the river vector in ascending order. Concerning the river having no border with the shoreline, the reference elevation value is inputted, and, then, the elevation values by prescribed difference are automatically inputted to the level curves crossing with the river in descending or ascending order. When the elevation values are previously inputted to the level curves, the elevation value is inspected to be a proper value or not in land features as the elevation value of the level curves crossing with the river vector, and then, the improper level curves are displayed by emphasis to be confirmed by the operator. The work manpower for inputting the elevation value to the level curve is reduced, an incorrect level curve elevation value is automatically detected, and correctness is kept in map picture data.
