<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To speedily carry out data compression processing adopting vector quantization by means of hardware. <P>SOLUTION: When retrieving a template pattern most similar to an input pattern from among a plurality of template patterns, a template pattern the similarity of which is to be calculated is selected by using feature values of the input pattern and the template pattern. When calculating the similarity of the selected template pattern and the input pattern, the calculation is carried out bit serially. Thus, in pattern matching processing in vector quantization, the number of templates which has to be matched is reduced and the number of cycles required for calculation in the case of matching is reduced to speedily carry out data compression processing using vector quantization. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO</p> |
