PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an MR sensor wherein reproducing characteristics are not deteriorated even when high sensitivity and high resolution are set, and a good correlation is maintained between dynamic characteristics and static characteristics, and a thin-film magnetic head having the MR sensor. SOLUTION: A lower shield layer, an upper shield layer, and an MR element disposed between the lower and upper shield layers are provided, a magnetic capacity of each of the lower and upper shield layers is 8.8E-15Wbm or higher, or a height of each of the lower and upper shield layers from ABS is 50μm, the lower and upper shield layers are magnetically connected to each other, or a shortest distance between the lower and upper shield layers is equal to/ lower than a sum of thicknesses of lower and upper shield gap layers.
