PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contour correction circuit by which an appropriate contour correction can be performed in accordance with the kind of each image in a graphic mixing the different kinds of images on the same picture. SOLUTION: The contour correction circuit is composed of a band dividing filter bank for dividing an input video signal to a plurality of video signals in each frequency band, a frequency distribution integration part for integrating the plurality of divided video signals for each area dividing one picture into preset sizes, an image discrimination part for discriminating the kind of the video signal in each divided area from this integrated result, a contour extraction part for extracting a contour component corresponding to the discriminated result, and an adder for performing the contour correction by adding this contour component to the input video signal.
