PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alternator for an automobile having a rotor assembly of hybrid design, including a permanent magnet. SOLUTION: This rotor assembly for an alternator includes an electric wire limiting excitation windings. Each of first/second magnetic pole piece has a circular body in general limiting a rotary shaft and an edge in a outer radial periphery side. A plurality of pole fingers are separated in a radial state around the edge in the radial direction outer side of each magnetic pole piece, to be axially extended in parallel to the axis of rotation from this edge. Each magnetic pole piece includes a plurality of mounting surfaces, separated in a radial state around the edge in the radial direction outer side between the magnetic pole fingers. A plurality of permanent magnets are positioned on the mounting surface. A plurality of covers include tabs extended therefrom, to encase in substantially one permanent magnet. The mounting surfaces of the first/second magnetic pole pieces includes ribs, the rib is engaged with the tabs to secure the cover in the mounting surface. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
