PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make searchable point information within a certain distance from a designated point at a high speed. SOLUTION: In the method and the apparatus, a prescribed number of pieces of the nearest point information within a certain distance from the designated near search position are searched from among point information represented by one coordinate in which a number of pieces of point information are distributed on a plane. The plane is divided into small regions without gaps, numbers are assigned to the respective small regions, and the method and the apparatus have a database 4 in which the above mentioned numbers corresponding to the coordinate are assigned to the point information to be searched, a coordinate designation part 2 which designates the near search positions, a searching part 1 which searches from the database 4 by limiting the point information within small region groups to be searched by using the numbers, making the small regions including the adjacent detection positions and small regions adjacent to the small regions to be searched, and an information display part 3 which displays the searched result at the searching part 1.
