PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charge management system capable of providing a scanning function and a printing function by self-service. SOLUTION: A reader controller 106 uses a paper feed signal and a paper eject signal to be outputted to a charge management device 110 during copying operation also for the provision of a single scanning function and outputs the paper feed signal at the start of scanning and the paper eject signal to the device 110 at the end of scanning. When receiving the paper feed signal, the device 110 calculates the price of one page on the basis of charging information received beforehand and calculates a total amount. When the paper eject signal can not be received within fixed time, the added amount of the page is subtracted. In providing printing service then, the user can be identified as a person utilizing the scanning function and the charge can be discounted. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
