PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of speeding up the drawing of compressed object data by skipping the drawing operation. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with an object start address setting register 101 for setting the start address of a pack bits compressed image data object, an object width setting register 102 for setting the width of the object, a number-of-skip lines setting register 103 for setting the number of lines to be skipped, a multiplier 104 for calculating the number of bytes to be skipped from the set value, an adder 121 for outputting the address LTOP of a pack bits code, and a magnitude comparator 107 for comparing the number of bytes calculated from the pack bits code with the number of bytes to be skipped. Since only the pack bits code part of the pack bits compressed object data is analyzed, useless decoding processing can be saved. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
