A method for making 2-(N-phenylamino)benzoic acids of formula (III) whereby a benzoic acid of formula (I) is reacted with an aniline of formula (II) with an alkaline metal hexamethyldisilazide; wherein R is either a hydrogen, halogen, C1-6alkyl, CN, NO2, and at least one of which groups on the anline is an electron-donating group.
