The diaphragm carburetor (1) includes a coupling mechanism which couples an air valve (9) to a butterfly valve. The coupling mechanism includes a spring (15) and compensates for axial and radial tolerances. The butterfly and air valves are brought in closing direction to close the intake channel (2) and the air channel (3) in an airtight manner. The air channel supplies additional combustion air. A regulating diaphragm separates the regulating chamber from a compensation chamber.
