PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide various methods for grouping a plurality of still pictures recorded on a recording medium based on their attributes, creating management information to manage each group of the still pictures and writing the group management information on the recording medium. SOLUTION: This invention relates to the method of grouping still pictures recorded on the recording medium for the purpose of management. The present method records still pictures on the recording medium, groups the recorded still pictures based on their attributes and/or attributes of recorded audio data associated with respective still pictures, creates management information about each still picture group, and writes the management information on the recording medium. By the recorded group management information, a user can find easily and rapidly many still pictures on the recording medium, obtained in same photographing condition. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
