PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk drive for performing the stable seek process even for the movement to an unrecorded surface from a recorded surface and also a gain control method thereof. SOLUTION: A gain correction device 30 is furnished, which is constituted of a memory part 22 for preserving a gain adjusting value of AS control system at the time before the coarse seek, a movement decision part 23 for deciding whether the movement to the unrecorded surface from the recorded surface is carried out by the coarse seek, and a computing/setting part 24 for correcting the gain adjusting value of tracking control system, and when the movement to the unrecorded surface from the recorded surface is judged as being made by the coarse seek, the stable coarse seek is performable by correcting the gain adjusting value of tracking control system on the basis of changing rates of the gain of AS control system at the time before and after the coarse seek and preventing the saturation of the gain of tracking control system.
