Solid dosage form which dissolves prior to use in a liquid to form a liquid pharmaceutical composition for oral delivery

A solid unit dosage form comprises a substrate that disintegrates in a liquid carrier, at least one particulate pharmaceutically active material (such as an antibiotic, antiviral or antifungal agent) deposited on the substrate as a layer distinct from the substrate with the at least one pharmaceutically active material being present on the substrate in a pharmaceutically effective amount and a cover sheet disposed over the pharmaceutically active material and sealed to the substrate. The substrate and the cover sheet form an enclosure for the at least one pharmaceutically active material. At the time of use, the solid unit dosage form is added to a pharmaceutically acceptable liquid carrier. The at least one pharmaceutically active material is orally delivered in the liquid carrier in a pharmaceutically effective dosage without measuring the quantity of a liquid carrier at the time of use.
