PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat stepping motor which is thinned in the direction of the rotating shaft thereof. SOLUTION: The stator assembly of the stepping motor is formed by bonding together: the tip of a first stator unit which is formed by vertically assembling two stator yokes each in a semi-annular shape and having a plurality of pole teeth formed along the periphery thereof so that the upper pole teeth and the lower pole teeth are shifted from each other at an electrical angle of 180°, and installing a coil for excitation on a side opposite to the pole teeth of the assembled two stator yokes; and the tip of a second stator unit which is identical in shape and structure with those of the first stator unit. The tips of the first and second stator units are joined with each other with a non-magnetic material so that spaces between the pole teeth are shifted at an electrical angle of 90°or 270°.
