PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrahigh density information storage device based on a novel monomolecular switching using a sub phthalocyanine being a promising asymmetric polar molecule. SOLUTION: In an ultrahigh density information storage device based on monomolecular switching, a sub phthalocyanine molecule being an asymmetric polar molecule arranged on and adsorbed by a metal surface realizes recording density of several tens of terabits/cm<SP>2</SP>by reversibly inverting the orientation of the molecules using a scanning tunnel microscope.
