The wheeled module (2), designed to support all or part of a chassis (1) of a load transporting or handling vehicle, has at least one wheel attached to a coupling mechanism within a volume (20) that does not extend as far as the centre of the chassis and provides a suspension system that is independent of the wheel's position or configuration. The wheel is pivoted on a journal (25) that can be rotated about a vertical axis by a steering rod, the journal being connected to the chassis by a flexible suspension system.
