PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cathode ray tube having an electron gun of which, resolution is improved by preventing electron beam from collision with an electrode, and effectively controlling a spot size sharply changing due to a change in the quantity of current. SOLUTION: For the cathode ray tube, comprising a cathode from which, electron beam is emitted, and a first electrode, a second electrode, a third electrode, a fourth electrode, a fifth electrode and a shield cup successively arranged in the direction from the cathode to a screen, a relation: 0.22≤d/W+t/A≤0.38 is fulfilled, wherein, W represents the vertical size of a concavity formed in the second electrode, d represents the depth of the concavity, A represents the diameter of an electron beam passing hole formed in the fourth electrode, and t represents the thickness of the electron beam passing hole.
