PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reproducing information for accurately reproducing information recorded in high density on a magnetic-optical recording medium. SOLUTION: In this method for reproducing information recorded on a magnetic- optical recording medium, the magnetic-optical recording medium includes a magnetic reproduction layer 18', a magnetic control layer 20' stacked on the magnetic reproduction layer 18', and a magnetic recording layer 22 stacked on the magnetic control layer 20'. The method for reproducing information includes a step for emitting a laser beam to the recording medium while applying a bias magnetic field and heating the recording medium to a temperature equal to or lower than the Curie temperature of the recording layer. In this process, a temperature distribution consisting of a first area where the reproduction layer is magnetized in the direction of a bias magnetic field, a second area where the state of magnetization of the recording layer is transferred to the control layer and the reproduction layer by bonding with exchange interaction, and a third area where the temperature of the control layer becomes equal to or higher than the Curie temperature and the magnetization direction of the reproduction layer turns into the direction of the bias magnetic field.
