PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication apparatus using ADSL lines capable of realizing remote and automatic meter-reading. SOLUTION: The communication apparatus 15 is provided with a splitter part 151 for splitting an ADSL signal P2 and a sound signal P1 multiplexed on ADSL lines 20, 21 and multiplexing both the signals P2, P1 to the lines 20, 21, an ADSL signal MODEM part 152, an ADSL line control part 153 for establishing the connection of the lines 20, 21 and transmitting/receiving data, a data buffer part 154 for transmitting/receiving data, a reading meter I/F part 157 for transmitting meter-reading data to a data conversion part 156, an IP masquerade part 155 for managing data between the ADSL MODEM and DSLAM and meter-reading data between a check meter and the DSLAM so as to transmit these data by one line, and a storage part 158 for storing an IP address and so on and constituted so as to perform voice communication and data communication by connecting the equipment 15 itself to the DSLAM of an exchange and connecting a TCP/IP port to the check meter and the ADSL MODEM.
