PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable telephone set and a message creation method capable of easily creating a new character message by using stored character messages. SOLUTION: A character string to be substituted on the way of edition of a character message is specified by an input device 5 of the portable telephone set 1. A processor 7 retrieves a character message including the specified substitute string from a plurality of character messages stored in a character message memory 3 and a routine sentence ROM 6 by using the substitute string as a keyword. Corresponding character messages are displayed on a display device 9 as the result of retrieval. When one of the displayed character messages is selected by the input device 5, the selected character message is substituted for the specified substitute string part. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
