Telemetry head for an appliance for programming an active medical device, especially an active medical implant such as a pacemaker of defibrillator. Head comprises a permanent magnet (26) for controlling a switch (24) that is sensitive to its magnetic field. The head is also provided with a magnetic shunt (28) that cooperates with the magnet. In a first position the shunt influences the magnetic field such that the implant cannot be switched on, while in a second position the magnetic field is such that the implant can be activated.
