<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a number of an optical filter and improve a crosstalk characteristics of a periodical optical filter. <P>SOLUTION: This apparatus converts a WDM signal in block to a residual sideband signal by the periodical optical filter. For example, it converts an optical signal to the residual sideband (VSB) signal, wavelength-division- multiplexing the optical signal of odd number wavelength (wavelength 1, 3, 5) and the optical signal of even number (wavelength 2, 4, 6) relatively by a first optical multiplexer, and filtering by relative periodical narrowband optical filters.
