PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reinforce a lance without preventing size reduction of a connector. SOLUTION: A protruding bar 31 is formed in the center of the top surface of the lance 30 in the widthwise direction, a relief groove 34 for fitting a protruding piece 31 for relief is formed at a ceiling wall of a cavity 25 at the lower stage, that is, a bottom surface of a lower accommodation wall 27 of the upper stage. The lance 30 can be reinforced by providing the protruding piece 31, and an engaging allowance for a female side terminal fitting 10 can be increased, therefore the fall-out resistance force of the lance 30 can be largely increased. On the other hand, since the protruding piece 31 is relieved toward the relief groove 34, the size of a deflection space 35 required between the lance 30 and the wall 27 can be restrained as it used to be, and it will not prevent the height of a housing 20 from being reduced. Both side edges of the lance 30 are brought into contact with both side edges on the lower surface side of the relief groove 34, thus excessive deflection and deformation can be prevented.
