PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the power consumption while maintaining a certain quality of display during standby in a liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display device, a voltage control part 6 generates a plurality of voltages for gradation display and a signal driving circuit 1 generates a signal voltage having an amplitude corresponding to the gradation specified by image data to be inputted via an interface circuit 7 by using the voltages for gradation display generated by the voltage control part 6 and applies the signal voltage to a liquid crystal matrix panel 2. When an instruction for standby is given via the interface circuit 7, the voltage control part 6 makes values of voltages for gradation display to be generated smaller. Then, the amplitude of the signal voltage to be applied to the panel 2 becomes smaller and the power consumption of the display device is reduced and the display device can secure display although the device is in a state in which the quality of a display picture is degraded.
