<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder, an information processor and their control method, recording system and program allowing the maintenance of the recorder at proper timing and capable of improving the throughput of the entire system. <P>SOLUTION: This recorder 100 detects execution timing of the maintenance in the decoder, and transmits a first command for requesting the execution of the maintenance to a host computer external apparatus based on the detection result. The recorder receives a second command for directing the execution of the maintenance in response to the first command.
