PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a correcting process for the residual capacity of a secondary battery when an engine is to be started. SOLUTION: The residual capacity calculating device is composed of an ammeter 108 to sense the charge-discharge current of the secondary battery 104, a voltmeter 110 to sense the voltage of the battery 104, a condition sensor 106 for sensing the timing at which electric discharging from the battery 104 to the engine 100 is started, and a battery ECU 116 for calculating the residual capacity of the battery 104, wherein the battery ECU 116 corrects the residual capacity on the basis of the sensed current and voltage in such a way as corresponding to the sensed timing.
