A method and system is disclosed for electronic payments for effecting purchase transactions through a communication network system, and especially so called micro-payments. The system involves a user, service provider and a fund manager, all being connected through the communication network. The method comprises: providing a user account by the fund manager dedicated to the user, transferring a user authentication token from the user to the fund manager; authenticating the user based on said authentication token, and in case of adequate authentication reserving a maximum purchase amount of the funds currently available on the user account for the service provider; effecting a purchase between the user and the service provider; and upon effected purchase transferring an amount for the purchase from said user account to the service provider, said amount being less or equal to the maximum purchase amount.
