A tire (T) as an object of inspection mounted on a rotary table (2) is imaged while it is rotated by a light projection means (10) for emitting a white slit light and a color CCD camera (20) for imaging the illuminating portion of the slit light, the coordinates and brightness of the tire (T) are detected from the obtained image data above by a coordinate calculation means (31) and a brightness calculation means (33), then the 3-D coordinate data and color image of the tire (T) are reconfigured from the obtained shape data and brightness data of the tire (T) by a shape image configuring means (32) and an appearance image configuring means (34), and the tire appearance/shape data pre-stored in a tire information storing means (35) is compared to the above 3-D coordinates data and the color image to judge whether the appearance and shape of the tire (T) is acceptable or not.
