A tire and a method of securing an object thereto includes a two-piece fastening system (22) having a first portion (20) which is applied to an innerliner (12) of a green tire prior to the green tire being cured and a second portion (30) which includes an object, such as a radio frequency identification chip (32), attached thereto. The first portion (20) of the tw o- piece fastening system is attached to the innerliner (12) of the tire with a n adhesive or by curing. The green tire is then cured and the second portion (30) of the two-piece fastening system (22) with the object (32) attached thereto is then attached to the first portion (20) of the two-piece fastenin g system. In an alternative embodiment, the object (32) may be sandwiched between the first (20) and second portions (30) of the fastening system.
