The invention relates to a periodic generator, comprising means (D0, D1, D2, , D17, X1) for production of a given series of sequences of bits in the forward sense following a first state of a selection signal (SEL). The generator further comprises means (X2) for producing said series in the opposing sense as a result of a second state of said selection signal (SEL). The invention further relates to a method for synchronisation of a mobile terminal receiving a message altered by means of a given series of sequences of bits, said series being clocked by means of a clock signal running in the forward sense, a method comprising a step for generation of a replica of said series in the forward sense with a more rapid rate than the clock signal when said replica is delayed relative to the series. The method also comprises a step for generating a replica of said series in the reverse direction when said replica is ahead of the series.
