The briefcase (10) is made of three rigid shells. The lid (12) of the briefcase has a rectangular flat top part (12a) and straight side walls (12b). A first hinge (16) on the edge of one of the sidewalls connects the lid to the bottom portion of the briefcase (14). There is a handle (18) on the wall opposite the hinge. The bottom portion of the briefcase is divided into two equal portions (14.1,14.2) with a second hinge (20) in the middle of the bottom (14a). Links (22) are hinged (24) to the sidewalls (14b) of the first bottom portion which is hinged to the lid. Plugs (26) on the free ends of the links can engage in holes in the sides of the lid (28) or in the sides of the second bottom portion.
