METHOD FOR TREATING WATER

According to a method for treating water, particularly mineral or table water, a flow of untreated water containing at least one oxidizable constituent is led to a filter material (7) that comprises brownstone having a manganese dioxide content of at least 50 wt. %. At least a portion of the at least one constituent is separated out from the flow of untreated water and is retained on the filter material (7), whereby pure water is obtained once the flow of untreated water passes through the filter material (7). After interrupting the flow of untreated water, the filter material (7) loaded with the constituent is regenerated by using an aqueous solution. This aqueous solution contains ozone, hydrogen peroxide or chlorine, is guided inside a circuit while passing through the filter material (7), and is subsequently used for additionally obtaining pure water from untreated water. This method makes it possible to avoid a metered addition of oxidizing agents such as ozone or chlorine to the water to be treated and keeps the consumption of regenerating agents low.
