A roller-type liquid applicator (10) which has a roller (14), roller support (20) and a reservoir (15). Liquid is added to the reservoir (15) and is dispensed through an opening (34) onto the roller (14). The roller (14) is held in place adjacent to the opening (34) by the roller support (20) which allows the roller (20) to freely rotate. A chamber (38) is formed between the external surface of the opening (34) and the inner surface of the roller support (20). The chamber (38) serves the purpose of collecting excess liquid which is not transferred from the roller (14) onto the application surface, and which could otherwise collect in and around the opening (34), eventually drying and preventing the proper functioning of the applicator (10).
