摘要 356,304. Statistical machines. BRITISH TABULATING MACHINE CO., Ltd., Victoria House, Vernon Place, London. -(Assignees of Daly, G. F. ; Johnson City, New York, U.S.A.) June 10, 1930, No. 17855. Convention date, June 11, 1929. [Class 106 (i).] Total-taking.-In a statistical or calculating machine, in which amounts from a register are transmitted to a receiver (printer or accumulator) through a reading-out device, the latter consists of selecting commutators each connected to a separate denomination of the register and connected in turn to denominations of the receiver through a single emitting commutator which acts synchronously with the movement of the receiver parts (e.g. the type bars). The invention is described as applied to a record-card-controlled statistical machine of the kind set out in Specification 247,200, [Class 106 (i), Calculating &c.] ; 10, Fig. 1, being the tabulating motor (TM) circuits, 11 the resetting circuits, GC the group-control circuits, and UB and LB the upper and lower brushes. When a lower brush energizes a countermagnet 12, the latter closes contacts 13 for the printing magnet 14 (listing). Each counter wheel 17, Fig. 2, is geared to a selecting commutator 22 (totalling) having segments 23 and a brush member 24 on the gear wheel 25 so that the brushes occupy a position according to the number on wheel 17. One brush will be on a segment 23 and the other on a common conductor 31 on the selecting commutators. All the segments 23 corresponding to the same digit are connected in parallel to a common conductor 32, Fig. 1. These commutators end in brushes 64 which coact with the spots 63 on the emitting commutators 60, the spot 63 being connected to a common conductor 62 and brush 65. 60 is on the total-taking shaft of the machine and is rotated, but only at totalling, in synchronism with the rise of the type bars past their holding pawls which are released to engage the bars as the printing magnets 14 are energized when the spot 63, corresponding to the position of each brush 24, reaches a brush 64. Hence the brushes 24 are pre-set according to the total on the counter and all type bars are arrested differentially by one rotation of the emitting commutator 60. Contacts 71 are only closed at totalling to connect commutators 22 to their magnets 14, by a magnet 72 in circuit with a cam 73 on the total-taking shaft. Specification 280,935, [Class 106 (i), Calculating &c.], is referred to.
