A method of directly synthesizing an oligolactic acid ester having a specific chain length as a single compound. The process, which is for producing a compound represented by the formula (1), (1) comprises reacting a compound represented by the formula (2) as defined in the description with a compound represented by the formula (3). (In the formula (1), X represents hydrogen or a hydroxy-protecting group; Y represents hydrogen or lower alkyl; and p is an integer of 2 to 19, provided that m+n+1=p.)
