The press matrix (2) is pressed by a tension device (3), consisting of a hydraulic cylinder (7) and provided with a tension spring (17). An end piece (12) of the tension device (3) acting against the abutment (13) is secured in an open position. The tension device acts by means of tongs-type calipers on the press matrix. The open position of the press matrix is limited by stops of press members (4, 4', 4") or by the action of the press members on tabs (40). A press member has an inner sleeve section. The peripheral ends of the sleeve sections of two profile members (4, 4') are so profiled in relation to a press surface that they overlap in the pressing position.
