The automatic stop-start method uses a stop-start device (16) with a stop function for cut-out of the IC engine (2) initiated via an AND logic, detecting simultaneous application of the automobile brakes and stopping or a minimum travel velocity of the automobile and a start function for re-starting the engine initiated via a second AND logic when simultaneous re-starting conditions exist. The automatic stop and start functions are dependent on the detected operating position of the engine hood (26), the driver door (40), the operation of the automobile air-conditioning system (22) and/or the operating condition of the oil system (56) for the drive transmission (6).
