The invention advantageously relates to an electric coolant pump (1), particularly for the coolant circuit of motor vehicle internal combustion engines, comprising a coolant pump motor, which drives a pump impeller (6) via a pump shaft (10), and comprising a valve (36), which is integrated inside the pump inlet, whereby the coolant pump motor is, for the first time, the switching element for the valve (36). The invention also relates, for the first time, to a method for controlling the valve (36), according to which the requisite switching work is performed by the coolant pump motor and is transferred via the shaft (10) of the pump motor to the valve (36), particularly a 3/2-way valve. |
