The device (1) is for operating a press door pivotably linked to a press housing and comprises a cylinder (4) and a positioning piston (5) activated by a pressure medium. A control piston (21) is provided which is axially displaceable against spring (22) force in the positioning piston. The outer cover surface of the control piston is formed as a control curve (23) and in the area of the control curve in the positioning piston are several stop members (31). The stop members, for positive engagement conneection of the positioning piston with the cylinder by means of the control curve, are partly insertable in an all-round machined recess (33) in the wall of the cylinder.
