<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming method enabling attainment of a desired image density even when a transfer sheet containing a coloring material of a low intrinsic density in a transfer layer is used. <P>SOLUTION: In the image forming method, a transferability accelerating material capable of lowering the transfer temperature of a transfer recording layer is given like an image to either the surface of the transfer recording layer of the transfer sheet having this layer on a substrate or the image receiving surface of an image receiving sheet, so as to form a latent image. Then, the surface of the transfer recording layer of the transfer sheet and the image receiving surface of the image receiving sheet are brought into close contact with each other and heated, so that the portion of the transfer recording layer corresponding to the latent image be transferred onto the image receiving sheet. Subsequently, the surface of the transfer recording layer of a transfer sheet identical with or different from the above transfer sheet is brought into close contact with the transfer surface of the image receiving sheet and heated.
