<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely deliver a sheet inside an apparatus to an emergence tray by initial driving. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus having a double-sided recording mode to carry the sheet on the front surface of which an image is formed to a double-sided carrying part and deliver the sheet on the back surface of which the image is formed to an ejection part, is provided with an delivery reversing roller 119 which can be driven to be normally rotated in order to carry the sheet on which the image is formed by an image forming part to the emergence tray 118, and also driven to be reversely rotated in order to carry the sheet to the double-sided carrying part when the double-sided recording mode is set, a double-sided introducing roller 120 carrying the sheet carried by the roller 119 to the double-sided carrying part when the double-sided recording mode is set, and a retaining detection means for detecting the retaining of the sheet between the rollers 119 and 120.
