PURPOSE: A device for detecting a specification of a flash memory element and a method thereof are provided to detect a specification of a flash memory element without an introduction of an additional pin of the flash memory element to an MCU(Micro Control Unit). CONSTITUTION: An external interface unit(10) reads predetermined data written in each byte of a flash memory element(30) from an exterior. A control unit(20) compares data according to each byte of the flash memory element(30) read from the external interface unit(10) and judges inherent information with respect to a corresponding flash memory element in accordance with the comparison result. A storage(22) stores predetermined data which are output signals of the external interface unit(10). A comparison unit(24) compares predetermined data recorded in the storage(22) and judges inherent information with respect to a corresponding flash memory element in accordance with the comparison result.
